Start with the customer’s routine
Ask about daily distance, longer journeys, parking, charging access and expected passenger or luggage needs. Petrol may suit a purchasing brief that does not depend on charging. A plug-in hybrid combines an engine with a rechargeable battery, but its operating pattern still depends on regular charging and use. An electric vehicle requires a practical charging plan rather than a range figure alone. Translate these needs into a written shortlist before comparing equipment.
Check the exact battery and test cycle
EM-P and battery-electric ranges can include different batteries, drivetrains and power outputs within one model family. Record the exact version next to each figure. Keep electric-only range separate from combined hybrid range, and keep CLTC and WLTP values identified rather than treating them as interchangeable. Test-cycle data is a comparison reference, not a promise of the distance a customer will achieve on every route or in every climate.
Treat charging and software as separate checks
For a China-market vehicle, confirm the physical charging connector, AC and DC capabilities, supplied cables and compatibility with the intended charging equipment. Separately review cabin language, navigation, phone integration and connected services. The presence of a feature in a manufacturer table does not establish that every connected function works in a different country. Ask for a demonstration of the functions that are essential to your customers.
Create a balanced order
Your order can combine different powertrains if that reflects actual demand. Give each model its own configuration, quantity and destination requirements, then request a coordinated sourcing proposal. Keep vehicle eligibility, documentation and shipping assessment specific to each vehicle type. A broader catalogue does not mean every variant can be procured on the same timetable or exported under identical conditions. Agree the final mix after those checks are complete.
China-market manufacturer specifications. Equipment, software, connected services and export suitability must be confirmed for the selected vehicle and destination.
